Janrain’s Newest Identity Provider: WeChat

At Janrain ®, we understand what it takes to deliver personalized experiences that build deeper customer relationships. Registration rates are up by 50 percent for website and mobile users, due to the ease of using social login to register and log in using existing social network identities. Adopting social networks to sign in to a brand’s site or application has simplified registration for even the most discriminating consumer now that a wide variety of identity service providers are available to them.

Today, we are excited to announce our newest identity provider, WeChat, a global messaging application used by consumers, primarily millennials. WeChat was developed by Tencent, a Chinese investment holding company whose subsidiaries provide media, entertainment, internet and mobile phone value-added services and operate online advertising services in China.

“Passwords and traditional registrations are starting to be things of the past,” said Jim Kaskade, Janrain CEO. “Brands that don’t provide social login options are not only discouraging new users from signing up, they’re missing out on valuable user data that allows them to market to their customers in a highly personalized fashion.”

By adding WeChat as an identity provider option, brands can provide yet another alternative for consumers to log in and easily capture their permission-based information. WeChat is the most widely used messaging application in China, making this identity provider particularly valuable as brands seek to capture customer identity from Chinese customers.

Customers can use WeChat to log in using a variety mobile devices such as Android, iPhone, Blackberry, Windows Phone and Symbian phones. By providing the tools they are accustomed to using every day, consumers can expect a seamless web experience.
