Tap into the Power of Instagram for Social Login and Community Engagement

By Michael Olson | Posted on August 28, 2013

Since its launch in 2010, Instagram has emerged as one of the most popular photo and video sharing social networks on the web, with more than 130 million active users. Its user experience design for mobile devices and tightcoupling with Facebook and Twitter for photo sharing has fueled its explosive growth. Today, we are excited to let you know that Janrain now supports social login with Instagram, enabling consumers to utilize their Instagram identity to easily register and login to sites across the web.

Instagram is especially popular among the 18-29 year old age demographic. 28% of people within this age group use Instagram, making it the second most popular social network among younger folks.

In addition to speeding up the registration process, social login with Instagram also creates opportunities to foster community engagement. During the login process, websites may request permission to access an Instagram user’s photo stream. For sites building community tools using photo albums or event-based photo streams, the ability for Instagram users to bring their photos with them over to other sites can create a more enriching experience.

You can see social login with Instagram in action today on Elkjøp, the largest consumer electronics retailer in the Nordic countries.
