As CEO, Jim leads the company’s vision, strategy and worldwide operations. He is a seasoned entrepreneur with more than 31 years of experience in complex enterprise technology, including 10 years as a startup CEO leading companies from their founding to acquisition. He has built multiple technology businesses in cloud computing, enterprise software, software as a service (SaaS), online and mobile digital media, online and mobile advertising, and semiconductors. Prior to Janrain, Jim was the Vice President and General Manager of Digital Applications at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), where he led the formation of its largest line of commercial business. Jim also led the fastest growing business at CSC, Big Data & Analytics. Before CSC, Jim held executive positions at Infochimps, PARC (a Xerox company) and SIOS Technology. Jim began his career in data and analytics at Teradata. Jim holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as a Master of Business Administration from the University of San Diego.
Jim Simons is a founding Managing Director of Split Rock Partners and focuses on software and Internet services companies.
Prior to founding Split Rock Partners, Jim served as General Partner of St. Paul Venture Capital, which he joined in 1996, and focused on early-stage investing in software and services opportunities. Before joining St. Paul Venture Capital, Jim was a partner at Marquette Venture Partners, where he was responsible for investments in a variety of industries. Jim began his career in the investment banking group at Trammell Crow Company and in the corporate finance department at First Boston Corporation.
Jim received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
Chris Kitching joined HighBar Partners from Sound United and its holding company DEI Holdings, where he served as Chief Financial Officer. Prior to DEI, Chris was Chief Financial Officer of ClariPhy Communications, Inc., a communications integrated circuit company.
Chris has also worked in the venture capital industry and served on many boards of portfolio companies in the information technology space. He began his career as an integrated circuit design engineer and developed products for Ethernet and power management applications.
Chris holds both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Phi Beta Kappa, from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Brian Peters joined HighBar Partners from Barclays Capital, where he was an investment banker in the Technology, Media and Telecom group. In that role, he provided companies and financial sponsors with strategic advisory services and assisted them with their capital market needs. Brian completed more than 20 transactions, raising over $1 billion in capital through equity, debt and hybrid security offerings. Notable advisory mandates included assisting Cisco Systems in the sale of its home networking business unit (“Linksys”) to Belkin International and advising Entropic Communications in its acquisition of Trident Microsystems’ set-top box business unit.
Prior to joining Barclays, Brian was an analyst at Rosemount Capital Management, a hedge fund backed by Merrill Lynch, which focused on direct trade-related credit investments in corporate and financial institutions in more developed emerging markets. During his time at Rosemount, Brian originated, structured, syndicated and traded a diversified portfolio of Latin American trade finance debt obligations. Prior to his finance career, Brian was a software developer for Nextel Telecomunicações Ltda. and Evertec, Inc. where he developed .NET web services across sectors including telecom, government, education and financial services.
Brian holds a BSE in Computer Engineering, with Honors, from the University of Michigan and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School.
John Kim is a co-founder and Managing Partner of HighBar Partners. Prior to HighBar, John was with W Capital Partners, a private equity fund with over $1 billion under management that makes and acquires direct investments in growth equity technology companies. John joined as the firm’s first employee in 2003. During his time at W Capital, John invested in special situations and secondary direct acquisitions from corporations, financial institutions and general partnerships.
Prior to W Capital, John was Director of Corporate Development at Zeborg (acquired by Emptoris), a venture-backed enterprise software company spun off from The Mitchell Madison Group, where he focused on operations and corporate strategy. Previously, he was Director of Investments at ISL Management, a venture capital firm funded by JPMorgan dedicated to early stage software and financial service investments. Earlier in his career, John was an investment banker with JPMorgan Chase (and its predecessors) and Robertson Stephens, where he worked on complex M&A and leveraged finance transactions across sectors including technology, financial services, healthcare and industrials.
John holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The University of Chicago and a Master of Business Administration, with Honors, from Columbia Business School.
