Portland, Ore (PRWEB) October 2, 2008 – JanRain, Inc. (www.janrain.com), the leading provider of OpenID technology and services for consumers and businesses, today announced that its popular myOpenID solution has been selected by Microsoft as an OpenID provider for the Microsoft HealthVaultTM online consumer health platform.
JanRain’s myOpenID service, the first and most popular independent OpenID service on the Internet, provides consumers with a free, fully featured, reliable, and secure solution for managing their personal online identity. Every myOpenID user receives several choices for secure authentication beyond password. These enhanced security options include: Microsoft InfoCard, Client Certificate, or Phone-based two factor authentication. Now, myOpenID users will be able to securely sign in to Microsoft’s HealthVault to manage their personal health information.
“Our customers want choice, ease-of-use, and they want tools to help them secure their personal information online. We’re very pleased to be working with JanRain to give HealthVault users the option of using their myOpenID with their HealthVault account.”
When a myOpenID user visits HealthVault to set up an account, they will be prompted to enter their OpenID. Then the user, if they have not already done so, will be required to login to their myOpenID account using either their username and password or a secure Microsoft InfoCard. If the myOpenID user has also enabled CallVerifIDTM, or another secure authentication method, they will be prompted to use that second factor to sign in. By offering Microsoft InfoCard support and a second factor authentication method, myOpenID users can feel more secure from fraudulent access to their HealthVault account.
“JanRain is pleased to be an approved OpenID provider for HealthVault and looks forward to our myOpenID customers leveraging the benefits of a secure and reliable OpenID platform with the convenience to store and access their healthcare information at HealthVault,” said Brian Kissel, CEO of JanRain.
