Portland, OR, June 17, 2010 – Janrain, Inc., (www.janrain.com) provider of the leading user management platform for the social web, today announced that a number of major media companies have launched the company’s Engage solution, formerly known as RPX, on their websites to enable third-party authentication for consumers. Tribune Interactive, Meredith, E.W. Scripps, The Dallas Morning News, and National Geographic Society are among the companies looking to Janrain’s innovative SaaS offering to allow users to easily login using an existing identity from providers such as Google, Yahoo, Facebook and Twitter, and publish their site activity back to multiple social networks.
“The media industry has undergone rapid change over the past few years as more of our consumers look for their news and information online. The result is a significant change to how we interact with our readers,” said Scott Rojas, Director, Product Development, Tribune Interactive. “Understanding who is interested in our content helps us better connect with readers over time. Requiring registration in the past was a challenge because users would often enter false information to speed up the process. With Janrain Engage we help the reader get into our sites quickly and collect correct data all in one simple step. ”
“As more people than ever before are going online to consume media, this move seemed like a natural evolution for our digital brands,” said Dan Hickey, Senior Vice President of Digital Engagement at Meredith. “Janrain’s Engage solution allows our site visitors to use something most of them already have – an account on a social network or from an email provider – to immediately access the best content and tools on our sites. It’s a win for our customers and a win for us.”
“It’s no secret that most of the visitors to our newspaper web sites have accounts on Facebook, Google, Yahoo! and other providers,” Patrick Beeson, content manager for Scripps Interactive Newspaper Group, said. “Janrain Engage allows us to improve the user experience by allowing them to login with their preferred account. Not only do we get more accurate information about our users, but we can also engage with them more intimately both on our sites and in their content streams elsewhere.”
The six new media customers join a number of other major media companies already working with Janrain, including Fox News, National Public Radio, Oklahoma Publishing Company, Real Girls Media, Journalism Online, Associated Northcliffe Digital, Avro, and the Bakersfield Californian.
